As you probably know, less than half of US citizens vote in elections. They actually are voting though -- they are voting against politics. If only the duopoly would get that none of the above actually is a vote. And if you think about it, it's actually a vote for humanity.
Totally - i’ve always had this idea that if all those who didn’t vote in the states could postal ballot, scrawling “fuck voting for you lot” over it, or words to that effect, it might actually start something. Naturally, i think that loophole is closed legally about who qualifies for postal ballot.
But this goes beyond voting etc, right? This is about how people identify with an existing prism that is simply a window back into the mess we’ve created for ourselves. And as prisms do, they refract light to make it appear like the end of the tunnel, but it just shepherds them back into the pen. Such ideas and framings have been subsumed by our system and are simply soda flavours at the drive through now.
At this point so many people have withdrawn consent. Voting at all is part of consent. This has been eroding for years. Trump will show us where this line really is. He's pushing the limits and testing the public. I think you're right that the same old flavor may step in - but that is more likely to prolong the crisis than to resolve it. Not depressing at all!
yeah, he's just dispensed with the charade of putting an acceptable sheen on shenanigans eh. He's like a president just out of the shower starkers on the balcony of the Whitehouse. Same shit, just no bathrobe of respectability. Naturally, more extreme - continuing the trajectory of generations of presidents (worldwide, not just in the states) now. a few notable exceptions, but mighty few.
I’ve been enjoying your general vibe, mixed humor… like “freedumb” and “duhmockracy”.
And you touched on something which I think gets close to core of our dilemma, which is that our political language has become so weaponized that ‘we’ can’t have a constructive conversation anymore.
IMO, it comes down to ‘Divide and Rule’ and… needing to recognize strengths and weaknesses on both/all sides of the argument
thanks ever so for reading, and taking the time to comment. I mainly do this so I can turn the angst and stress society causes me into something vaguely positive. An exorcism if you will - I don't have many answers to these big questions. And you are spot on - divide and rule is exactly the dynamic at play in our society. And so, it is imperative that we rise above this faction bullshit and start targeting the system and structures that sit above our factions. Numbers are one of our biggest strengths...
And I'm going to steal that upgrade - duhmockracy. Genius! I'm a smite jealous that it didn't occur to me in truth! I just got the Duh bit, but the mock is even more of scalpel in the eye.
There's a musical side to this too, which, feel free to check out, or plain ignore. it's on bandcamp or soundcloud, and like everything I do, totally free.

Sorry, I’m a depressing git sometimes ;)
